Evergreen trees; branchlets subterete or angulate, with rounded lenticels, fulvous; buds subglobose to oblong, 1-1.2 cm long, 4-5 mm broad, acute at apex, scales rounded, tomentose, margins subglabrescent, brown.
Leaves thin coriaceous, obovate-oblong, lanceolate to linear-oblanceolate, 12-18 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm broad, entire, short acute or short acuminate at apex, cuneate-acute at base, glabrous above, yellowish- or brown-hirsute beneath, midrib impressed, flattened, elevated or seldom slightly concave above, prominently e1evated and puberulent or sparsely villous or glabrous beneath, lateral veins 9-14 pairs, veinlets transversely reticulate, slightly elevated above, distinct1y elevated beneath; petioles ca. 1-2 cm long, stout, blackish-brown-hirsute at first, glabrescent, slightly sulcate above, convex beneath.
Inflorescences umbellate; peduncles 3 mm long, hirsute; receptacles hirsute outside; tepals of staminate flowers 6, oblong, 1.8 mm long, 1.4 mm broad, slightly villous outside; pedicels 1.8 mm long, tomentose; fertile stamens 9, filaments slightly villous, 2 mm long, the 3rd whorl of stamens with glands at base of filaments, glands flattened, orbicular, subsessile, glabrous; reduced ovary absent; pistillate umbels 5 or 6-flowered, peduncles 3 mm long, pubescent; involucral bracts 4 or 5, concave, pubescent outside; receptacles campanulate, 0.5 mm long, tomentose outside, glabrous inside; tepals 6 parted, subequal, oblong, 2 mm long, l.3 mm broad, acute, hirsute outside, glabrous inside; staminodes 9, subulate-linear, 2 mm long, sparsely hirsute or glabrous, somewhat dilated-triangular, acute, 3rd whorl with 2 glands, glands 1.5 mm long, semi-oblong; ovary ovoid, 1 mm long, subglabrous, styles 2.5 mm long, glabrous, the stigma slightly 2-lobed.
Fruit ellipsoid, 1.2 cm long, 0.6 cm across.

台灣 : in broad-leaved forests, such as at Alishan, Chipung, Shenping and Chishan.
世界 : Southern China, Hainan Is., Indochina.
